Happy 2012! Wow, I haven't been round here in ages...

Hello there

I'm happy to report, that after many a redesign and battle with Flash, I've finally got my personal website up and running: www.lauramccullagh.com (haha wow, that was an hilarious emoticon...) If you check it out I hope you like it, and if you spot any bugs I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know

Hello, I am happy to report that I am, contrary to how it may appear, alive!

I've just finished an animated music video for Fake Eyelashes ' Pentimento / Palimpsest ', a short and very sweet little song, which is up in my gallery as well as over here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcP0EY… - and I'd very much appreciate it if you had a look

I'm also busy working on a personal website at the moment which should hopefully be up and running by next year...

Otherwise, I apologise for my lack of activity around here; time is not something I have had a lot of lately...

So I was tagged by and figure this is as good an excuse to update my journal as any...

Here are the rules:

Right, so here are my 8 things:

1) I'm currently working as a web designer
2) In my spare time I'm an animator, photographer and painter
3) One of my biggest passions and inspirations is music
4) I've developed a love for books bordering on obsession...and while I don't consider myself a fickle reader,
   I do judge books by their covers.
5) More often than not, I'd rather be a bird than a human...
6) I was born in the Chinese year of the snake
7) I love mythology and folklore, especially anything dragon-related
8) Despite my low cold threshold, I have a deep and unexplainable love for the frozen expanses of the North,
   and hope to explore Scandinavia some day.

I don't believe it: De Rosa have disbanded.

I don't know why and really don't want to believe it, but they have, barely 3 months after releasing their incredible second album...

I feel beyond miserable.

It' s funny, it's 3 years (almost to the day) since I first heard 'Camera', and one year since I randomly thought to google it and came across their last.fm page, and fell in love after hearing their Appendices songs...If I'm sounding like a deranged and obsessive stalker right now, I promise I'm not - I used to record music videos late at night off MTV and kept a record of the names and dates for each VHS tape (okay, maybe slightly obsessive...)...and I generally organise my music according to month and so associate certain music with certain dates and times of the year...so to me they were always a June/winter band...oddly fitting then, I guess, for them to end now...

There were just so many strange co-incidences that came along with my discovery and rediscovery of the band, and it all felt so right, like it was meant to be and destined for something great...sounds stupid I know but I can't explain it...They were just so damn good, they really were, and I really had high hopes for them.

I really don't know what to say. I'm sorry it's come to this and am sad to have never seen them play. But I am grateful for all the music, and feel honoured to have worked with them on the videos for

'Robin Song'

and

'Nocturne For An Absentee'.

Chemikal Underground put it well in their eulogy:

"De Rosa's music was as complex as it was melodic - it exercised the head as well as the heart and their live performances could be as thrilling as any we've ever seen."

Sadly their website seems to be gone, but you can still hear their music on Last.FM and Myspace, pick up ' Prevention ' (and 'Mend' ) if you come across it, it truly is a great album from a band who really were something special.

I Wish them all the best and hope they continue making music, if not in this form then in another.
